Somers Forge
Prologue
Somers Forge is Europe’s leading open die forgemaster with a reputation 130 years in the making. Using a combination of proven techniques and cutting edge technology they forge extraordinarily large, complex and high integrity metal components from ingots of raw material to tolerances of 1/40,000th of an inch, Somers in Halesowen services the defence, oil and mining industries amongst many others.
The story
Although Somers Forge had experimented with film as a marketing tool a previous project remained incomplete. Following detailed consultations Fullrange pitched an alternative approach. It was always clear that the finished film had to convey a good deal of technical and specialist information. But it was also clear that film as a medium is uniquely positioned to bring the emotional impact and intensity of Somers work to get customers excited and generate an emotional response as well as inform the savvy customer. It needed to capture the raw, industrial majesty of a four thousand tonne press working a seventy tonne ingot.
Behind the scenes...
The finished film consisted of three sections; a short segment that established the company’s proposition and position as a world leader in the industry, another short piece filled with imagery of the various presses working huge pieces of heated metal with an enhanced soundtrack of bespoke design and finally the bulk of the film detailed the company’s processes and technical expertise.
